Sedation Dentistry

Imagine going to the dentist, lightly sleeping through your treatment, and waking up to a beautiful new smile. It's possible with sedation dentistry, also known as "sleep dentistry," a wonderful new feature of modern dental care. This treatment is ideal for those with dental fears or for lengthy procedures. During your consultation, will be more than willing to explain sedation dentistry to you.

The Procedure

At North County Cosmetic and Implant Dentistry we believe in providing quality care in a comfortable environment. We have designed our office to be focused on your comfort. We realize that anxiety keeps many patients from achieving the smiles that they desire. In our office, we offer many solutions to dental anxiety.

Our staff is certified to provide conscious sedation. We provide sedation through the use of a pill or through the use of intravenous (IV) medications. The medications used in conscious sedation have a wide margin of safety and can be easily titrated and reversed to ensure that a perfect level of comfort is achieved. Sedation can enable patients to tolerate long appointments or traditionally uncomfortable procedures (i.e. wisdom teeth extractions) with out the hassle of going to a large treatment facility.

It is important to review your medications and medical history before sedation is administered. Before sedation it is important not to have anything to eat or drink 8 hours prior to your appointment and to have an adult escort that can transport you home.

Am I a Candidate for Sedation Dentistry?

There are all types of people who can benefit from this comforting procedure. Following is a list of reasons why patients decide to use this option:

• Fears of dental appointments.
• Challenges with conventional dental anesthesia.
• Sensitive teeth or a strong gag reflex.
• Lengthy procedures that will otherwise take several visits to complete.
• Mental or physical disability
• Apprehension about needles and shots.
